Tour agency Baba Travel will have its licence revoked for falsifying the identity of a key executive in its application for licence renewal, the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) said in a statement on Wednesday (May 23).

In addition, the STB has also received complaints from the agency's industry partners and customers regarding outstanding payments owed, the statement added.

Though its travel agent licence will be revoked on Thursday (May 24), Baba Travel will still be required to refund all its existing customers or hand over its obligations to a licensed travel agent to fulfil.

Baba Travel, which began operations in 2005 and has an office in Chevron House according to its website, offers tour packages to destinations such as Myanmar and Greece. It could not be reached at its listed phone numbers.

According to Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (Acra) filings, Baba Travel's director is listed as Shashikant Bhagwanlal Mehta.

An STB spokesman said the board takes a serious view of errant travel agents and "will not hesitate to take necessary actions to protect the reputation of Singapore's travel industry". An up-to-date list of licensed travel agents in Singapore can be accessed at https://trust.yoursingapore.com, the spokesman added.
